The Process

1. Health insurance process:

   a. Provide your information

       i. Call and provide us with your child’s insurance information, pediatrician information and any diagnosis  information.

   b. We will verify speech therapy benefits

   c. Schedule an evaluation

   d. Schedule therapy if needed

*this entire process usually only take 1-2 weeks. Please note that some insurance policies require an authorization. This is typically not the case with private insurance companies, however we do occasionally run into this. If this happens, there can be a longer wait time depending on how quickly your insurance takes to authorize evaluations and/or therapy.

2. Medicaid process:

   a. Provide your information:

      i. Provide us with your child’s Medicaid insurance information, pediatrician information and diagnosis                information.

   b. Requestion authorization for a speech & language evaluation:

      i. This is a collaborative process between our office and your child’s pediatrician.

   c. Scheduling the evaluation:

      i. We will notify you once we receive the authorization to schedule the evaluation

ii. Testing can take anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on your child’s needs

iii. Parents will fill out developmental history forms and provide any other information/documentation                requested by the speech therapist.

   d. Speech & language report:

      i. the speech therapist will compile your child’s testing information, with all other information provided and      write a detailed report.

ii. If your child shows a need for speech therapy services, we will call and discuss this with you and proceed  to the next step.

   e. Requesting authorization for speech and/or language therapy:

      i. this is again a collaborative process     between our office and your child’s pediatrician.

   f. Scheduling therapy:

      i. depending on the needs of your child, we will discuss how often your child needs speech therapy.

*There are 2 authorizations required for this entire process, each authorization process usually takes 1-2 weeks. Please note, this process may take longer depending on how quickly your child’s pediatrician completes their required steps. We work with your child’s doctors to keep this timeline as short as possible.

What can you do to help this process?

1. Make sure your child is up-to-date on all well checks, hearing and vision screenings, etc.

2. Inform your child’s doctor that they will be receiving paperwork from our clinic.
